Hey Sh3r, sorry for not getting back homie. The request set is handled differently nowadays...instead of a whole set around a random genre, we had to field a request for a single song during a primetime set. It could be anything, but we have to find a way to go from our primetime set, get to the request, and then back to primetime...and only when it's actually requested. Many times it's not the request you were expecting. And of course it needs to be done in a smooth and natural way :) A lot changed since I took 303 last year, they've *really* turned up the heat!
vegas lounge works too, they were just using hollywood as an example. frank sinatra n stuff could work as well depending on the type of lounge. like maybe its a lounge for an older crowd or its lounge music for cocktail hour at a wedding. i try to picture what the scene looks like when the musics playing. like what does the location look like? what kind of people are there? and i try to build the music to be a soundtrack for that scene. what works all depends on what you goin for.
yoyo, slow jams is definitely one type of lounge mix, just probably not the right music for a hollywood lounge. you could try staying on the R&B tip and look for edgier jams that arent love ballads (genuwine or jodeci?) or try some slower hip hop (common, roots etc). heres a list that might help:
